Mont Blanc Fountain Pen - Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition

There is a full four-colour featured in today's newspaper with his personal portrait on the top and a photograph of the luxury pen down at the bottom. The ad copy is titled FREEDOM, and it describes Montblanc's tribute to Gandhi's contribution through his non-violence and his words which has touched everyone. This very exclusive pen costs £15,500/$25,000/AED 90,000 and is made to mark the 140th birthday of Gandhi. So many years has passed away after his death, and I am upset to see his spirit is being marketed this way.

The ad promotes that this pen is for those who are touched by Gandhi the same way as it has been for Mont Blanc. Copying from the description of the product - "white lacquered surface reflecting cotton texture, 925 sterling silver mountings on cap and cone, shaped to resemble a roughly-wound yarn on a spindle, a saffron-coloured mandarin garnet on the clip, hand-crafted 18K sold gold rhodium-plated nib finely engraved with Gandhi's image." What an ingeniously designed piece of art, someone next to me acclaimed!

Gandhi had his own inspiration from many great people who helped to form his character. Would he be so passionate to spend 25,000 US dollars to buy a pen that featured a portrait of his inspiration/idol? The answer is simply no. During his lifetime, Gandhi rejected materialism. So what is the real inspiration for Mont Blanc to make a pen of Gandhi's image?

In the Bible, Jesus said that one cannot serve God and money. Where your heart is, there is your treasure. Many crave power and wealth but layer themselves with the cover of spiritual or religious good meaning - pretending there is a good cause when it is just downright for profiting money. Does anyone out there feel like s/he is living in a twilight zone? I do.
