We Love Egypt

It's been a few weeks after we've returned from Egypt - it is certainly an unforgettable family trip.

We stayed most of our trip in the city called 6th of October. In the '70s, the Egyptians won a battle and name the city after it.

As always, we stayed in Hilton and was upgraded to a 2-floor suite with a jacuzzi in each suite. Each bathroom was almost the size of the room - it was huge and luxurious.

The hotel convinced us to hire a driver and it was a good recommendation. The driver took us to all the well-known pyramids that were on the brochures and told us histories and legends in a very entertaining way. I learnt to say "lah" to the local people who tried to sell us things. "Lah" means No. I was sad to see many beggars, especially the young children who are selling souvenirs (that was made in China). I asked Gemma if she would mind giving some candies to the little merchants. She ended up empty her bag and gave away all. When we were leaving, one little girl ran to us and gave Gemma with a papyrus bookmark. It was a really a precious memory.

We were in Cairo for the last two days of our trip. The city was a very hectic place. I was more intimidated than a bit stressed. The traffic there was brutal and so was the air. I had a hard time breathing on a few occasions when I walked on the street because the pollution was very intense. I was distributing anti-bacterial hand-gel to everyone (constantly)...it's not the cleanest place on earth.

Lastly, if you enjoy seeing ancient Egyptian treasures at the British Museum in London, you will be surprised when you see how artefacts are kept in the local museum in Cairo. Just a precaution.
