Roger Federer in Making?!
The first thing Oskar looks for when he wakes up is the tennis racket, and then his hand are glued onto the handle. He would not let go of his racket even when he takes a nap.
I couldn't remember when he started with this obsession with tennis. His favorite toy was the plastic golf club which he played every day since he was 16 months old. He used the club like a hockey stick to hit the ball. One day he discovered Gemma's tennis racket and the rest was history. Hours after hours he would hold up someone to throw balls to him so that he could hit them. It was fun for us for the first ten minutes and then the game just kept going on and on...Everyone got tired and bored, except Oskar.
This morning I came back from dropping Gemma to school and realised that Gelosa had taken Oskar to the playground. I went to search for them and found them just about to return. Oskar was with his extended arm(the one with the racket). Feeling the heat wasn't too bad, I decided to take him to the tennis court.
It was a total work out for me and Gelosa as we only got one tennis ball. Under the harsh desert sun, we ran after the ball and threw back to his majesty. I knew little about tennis but still was very impressed with Oskar's concentration and how he did some nice hitting at the court. He had his arm up and his eyes were with the ball. He even directed us to stand on the opposite side of the net to throw the ball to him.
That racket must be heavy to carry by his small tiny arm. After all, he's only 21 months old. I made sure to capture some snaps of Oskar's first appearance at a real tennis court. Well, I am very proud of him as I haven't come across a tennis player who is wrapped in a nappy still.
A whole hour flew by and I asked and begged him to go home. Even offering bribe of his favourite juice did not move him out of the court - and the heat was really getting unbearable. Finally, I had to grab hold of him and carried him out. He made sure that he protested with a loud cry all the way home.
