Take Pain to Ease Pain
For the past several years, I have been suffering from backache. I supposed many mothers had back pain due to birth-giving and looking after children and the housework. Little did I know about my own health, I was told by my doctor after the scan that my spine was deformed from birth. Since I have been using this deformed spine for so long, my nerves were compressed by the joints and caused serious issues.
The backache escalated and just a few months ago, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis as well as osteoporosis. Every minute of my day, I was in pain. Sometimes it was unbearable so I shouted "stop beating me up!!" to the air...
I continue my life as normal as I can. I think that I should have known that my osteopath has not been in good condition. Other than the constant ache, two healthy teeth literally fell out during the period I was breastfeeding Gemma and then Oskar. I fed Gemma for 18 months and Oskar for 12 months. Thank god, they are in good health and even with the pain I suffer, I still think two teeth were nothing.
I woke up in bed the other morning and felt just awful. The pain was too much to be eased with Tylenol. I decided to give pressure to my doctor and asked for a more thorough check-up.
My doctor thought that since I stopped breastfeeding, I was allowed for a more "advance" treatment which included prescription painkillers. I was later referred to the pain clinic to receive one injection each week for 8 weeks.
On the day to meet with the doctor in the pain clinic (Dr Singn), I actually got three injections - one on my shoulder, one on my neck(or better to describe, on my throat) and one under my scalp(yes, behind my left ear and the needle was injected under my scalp into my head!) We also agreed to have an epidural the next day to treat my back pain. I was told that 70% of people who received the treatment got better. That's not bad and maybe, I could be the lucky one!
I admitted yesterday to the clinic for the epidural - a nice cocktail mixed with anaesthetic and steroid was injected to my spine. Before I checked out myself three hours later, I got another goodie bag full with narcotic pain pills plus other painkillers that I already have been taking. In a few weeks, I will receive more pain injections and physic therapy. I will probably get an MRI scan as well.
What I feel at this moment is that the injected are very sore.
The reason that I am writing a post about this is to tell you not to ignore your body pain. Mine has gotten so much worse because I have been trying to tolerate instead of having a proper checkup.
My bones and joints are degenerating badly and act up like a 70 years old lady. My father who is almost 80 years old is tougher and in better condition than me. He has been busy looking for supplements to boost my osteo health. Those supplements were actually for senior citizens and I should be the one buying for him!
It's surely unusual to get osteoporosis and osteoarthritis at the age of 33. Good health is the base for everything yet the first thing we neglect.
I am coping. No one knows when my pain will go away. The only thing is to try to make every moment counts.
