Pigeon Maternity Ward Update~
Yes yes yes, I have not forgotten to post the update of our mommy pigeon. Only one of the two eggs hatched and here's the baby pigeon. I know that baby birds are really odd-looking, but this baby pigeon must be the oddest of them all.
The hatching period took around 2 and a half weeks. I have lost count of how many days this baby pigeon has arrived. The only thing is that he grows just as fast as Oskar. When I see the picture I took of the tiny egg where he came out from, I could hardly believe how extremely large he has become. He's nearly 2/3 of an adult pigeon size. I felt for the mom as I am also in the same situation that my baby Oskar is quite oversized.
We had one of the biggest thunderstorms the other night and the desert was flooded. I saw the mommy pigeon was sitting on her large baby and was getting very wet from the heavy rain. I took the packing material from our new washer and quickly made a cover for the birds. Slowly I walked out, whispering to the wet pigeons not to be afraid and that help was here...Well, of course, mommy flew away. I took the flower pot where the baby bird was in and replaced with my shelter. Mommy bird didn't come back, not until two days later. During those two days when the baby pigeon and I waited for mom to come home, I felt very guilty for interrupting nature.
Things have gone much better now. I have seen two adult pigeons both come regularly to feed the baby. There are sometimes other pigeons flying in to visit the kid as well. My balcony is now a Cafe Pigeon and is full of pigeon poo...
The baby bird can now stand on his legs. He doesn't look frightened of me at all as I often come to check on him. I also create a peaceful relationship with the mom and the possible daddy figure. Although I refer the baby bird as "he", but I have no clue about its gender. He looks better nowadays with lots of feathers. He also has a cute little voice.
