Onam Celebration - Sept. 5th

Girish, one of the many Indian staff in the hotel, got his wife to send a beautiful outfit from India for Gemma to wear on their day of traditional celebration called Onam. The dress is from the Kerla region in the south of India where Girish and his families are from.

The staff canteen was full of mouth-watering food made with aromatic Indian spices. We ate from large banana leaves that had Indian round rice, 3-4 different types of curry, pickled vegetables, banana chips and papadom. As most people were using their hands, I also gave it a try. It was harder to scoop rice with one hand then chopstick! The amount of food I could deliver to my mouth was so little so I took a spoon instead. After all, I needed to feed my prego belly, especially with these fabulous dishes in front of me.

The centrepiece in the canteen was decorated with small flower petals - it was really beautiful. My tiny camera didn't get to make a good photo of it. We all love Onam. What a great celebration!
